Fringe comedy out on DVD

Cast of thousands, budget of nothing

A low-budget film featuring a raft of comedians at the Edinburgh Fringe has been released on DVD.

Peacock Season tells of a disillusioned advertising executive who quits his job to become a stand-up.

It was filmed at the 2008 festival on a budget of just £58, with comedians performing for nothing. It premiered at the 2009 Fringe.

Comic James Wren stars in the film, which he co-wrote, while the cast also includes the League Of Gentlemen’s Reece Sheersmith, who plays a bored technician; Nina Conti as Graham’s wife and owner of a comedy website called chuckle.com and Adam Hills as an aggressive Australian stand-up.

Also appearing are Dan Antopolski, Brendon Burns, Scott Capurro, Nina Conti, Rhys Darby, Anil Desai, Justin Edwards, Felicity Wren, Pete Firman, Leon Fleury, Paul Foot, Richard Glover, Joy Gohring, Charlotte Jo Hanbury, Richard Herring, Kerry Howard, Sammy J, Matt Kirshen, Cal McCrystal, Craig Murray, Phil Nichol, Sara Pascoe, Lucy Porter, Stan Stanley, Isy Suttie, Phil Whelans, Glenn Wool.

The film, which satirises ‘gag hags’, shallow TV producers, grasping venue owners and insecure egotistical comedians, has been released on the independent Go Faster Stripe label, priced £12.
