MP calls for Eric Morecambe museum
An MP has called for a museum to be set up in honour of Eric Morecambe.
David Morris, Conservative MP for the Lancashire resort which gave the comedian his surname, said the memorial was long overdue.
He said he was approaching Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles to see if government funding was available. Local brewery Mitchell’s have also expressed an interesting in helping get a museum off the ground.
Mr Morris said he was acting after reading comments on Twitter following the BBC2 drama about Morecambe broadcast last week.
He added: ‘We need an Eric Morecambe museum whether it's in the Winter Gardens or some other venue on the prom I'm absolutely certain.’
Eric Morecambe is already honoured with a seafront statue in the town.
