Gervais to be The Simpsons – again

Episode set at the Oscars

Ricky Gervais is to make another guest appearance in The Simpsons.

He will play himself in an episode set around the Oscars ceremony, due to air early next year

Gervais previously appeared in a 2006 episode, which he also wrote, based around him trying to seduce Marge on a Wife-Swap style reality TV show

Gervais said of his repeat appearance: 'I recorded it last week. Didn't mention it as I don't like to show off. You know that. It's a fun episode. I didn't write it and it's only a brief cameo, but I did manage to adlib like a motherfucker and insult an awful lot of people. And it only took an hour. Perfect. It airs in Feb in US I think.

'It's weird that I can talk about popping up in The Simpsons so casually. When I first got into comedy someone asked me what my ultimate ambition was. I said, "to get a joke on The Simpsons." I have been a very lucky boy indeed.

'Maybe one day I will actually know someone as stupid and bald as Homer. Although I doubt there is anyone in the world like that.'

Halle Berry is also set to appear in the Oscars episode. Other guest voices in the 22nd series include Daniel Radcliffe, Hugh Laurie, and Martha Stewart.Meanwhile, Gervais is also makng a guest appearance in the next series of Curb Your Enthusiasm
