'The female Inbetweeners'
E4 is planning a new sitcom billed as a female companion to The Inbetweeners.
The company behind Hollyoaks is working on a pilot episode of Sex And The Chippy, with filming due to start in September for broadcast next year.
Set in a Liverpool chip shop, the script revolves around three women recounting their exploits on a night out.
The demographic is older than the sixth-formers of The Inbetweeners, with the main characters being in their early thirties. But the two comedies will share a director, Ben Palmer.
Described by Channel 4’s head of comedy Shane Allen as ‘glossy, raucous, upbeat and excruciating’, Sex And The Chippy was created by Hollyoaks writers Heather Robson and Neil Jones.
Allen told TV trade magazine Broadcast: ‘We’re delighted with the script, it’s bursting with great banter and some truly jaw-dropping set pieces. It’s so good to be getting behind something female, funny and young for E4 to complement The Inbetweeners .’
