Fielding's new solo shows... but they're in Canada

Noel Fielding is to perform his first solo shows since hitting the big time – but fans will have to travel to Canada to see them.

The Boosh star has been invited to appear at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival and its sister event in Toronto next month.

He will perform at Montreal’s Zoofest – the festival’s ‘alternative’ strand for relatively intimate one-man shows, away from the mainstream, big-ticket gigs that make up the core festival.

Fielding had planned to tour the UK this spring, but cancelled it after putting tickets on sale, saying he was too busy with a planned Boosh film and album. He promised to reschedule the dates – which would have been his first solo shows since 2002 – but a new tour has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile fellow Brits Tim Key and Tom Wrigglesworth have also been invited to Zoofest to perform their acclaimed 2009 Edinburgh shows, alongside the likes of Phil Nichol, Patrice O’Neal, Jim Jefferies and Bo Burnham.

Other acts from this side of the Atlantic heading for the main Montreal festival, which runs from July 12 to 18, are Andrew Maxwell, Beardyman, Des Bishop, Jarred Christmas, Jimmy Carr, Paul Zerdin and PJ Gallagher.

The Toronto event, which takes place from July 6 to 11, will feature such acts as Demetri Martin, Garry Shandling, Louis CK, Patton Oswalt and Tim Minchin.
