Emmy for Fey's Palin

SNL skits scoop award

Tina Fey has won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live.

The 30 Rock star was named best guest actress in a comedy at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys yesterday, the precursor to the main awards next weekend.

Accepting her accolade, she said of the Republican vice-presidential hopeful: ‘Mrs Palin is an inspiration to working mothers everywhere because she bailed on her job right before Fourth of July weekend. You are living my dream. Thank you, Mrs. Palin!.

She also thanked her parents, who are lifelong Republicans, saying: ‘They thought the first four sketches were very funny. The last two were in their words, “Enough already.”’

Fey is in contention for two awards at the main ceremony, including best comedy actress.

Justin Timberlake was named best guest actor in a comedy, also for his appearance on Saturday Night Live.

In other categories, Dan Castellaneta won outstanding voice-over performance for playing Homer Simpson, while South Park was named outstanding animated Programme.
