Matt Lucas comedy axed

The Matt Lucas comedy Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire has been axed after one series.

The medieval fantasy aired on BBC Two and starred former EastEnder Sean Maguire as the eponymous hero and Lucas as his arch-enemy, Dongalor.

But the BBC says it will not order a second series after its funding partner pulled out, trade website Broadcastnow reports.

The first run – an hour-long opener followed by five half-hour episodes – was co-produced by the UK’s Hat Trick Productions and MRC for Comedy Central in America.

Critical reaction was lukewarm, while it found an audience of around 1.3million viewers a week.
