'Ricky Gervais' produces bullshit
- It’s always sad to see such talent die so tragically young... Well that’s our review of C4's TNT Show done, what else has been going on?
- Some favourite Michael Jackson lines, courtesy of various stand-ups’ Facebook and Twitter updates. Jason Cook: ‘You can say a lot about him, but it was hard not to be touched by him’ and Gary Delaney: ‘Anyone called him '”The People’s Paedophile” yet?’
- At Elton John’s swanky black and white ball last night: David Walliams, Matt Lucas, Alan Carr and Jimmy Carr. And this is what Jimmy was wearing:
- The oddest gift Ricky Gervais received for his 48th birthday yesterday? A bullock. Animal rights group PETA named the animal they rescued from slaughter in India after him, to recognise his work for their cause. The bull – pictured above – will now live in a sanctuary after it came to the end of its working life in the sugar mills. But in his stand-up, Gervais hasn’t always been welcoming of the trend for charity gifts, complaining that he once received the gift of a goat for an African family. He said: ‘The African family's going, “Not another mouth to feed!” It’s ridiculous. There’s nothing in it for the goat! The goat wakes up in barren land going, “Where am I? A week ago I was gambolling through the Cotswolds then someone just kidnapped me, put me on a boat, took me to Africa”. It’s like Roots in reverse.’
- Sacha Baron Cohen’s outrageous Bruno outfits have at least one fan - his fiancee Isla Fisher. She says: ‘He looks sexy in all of them. And those legs!’
- All the crew on the new series of Gavin & Stacey are addicted to a mobile phone game in which you lob a ball of paper into a bin. Star Mat Horne Twittered: ‘We’ll never get anything shot. The whole crew is playing Paper Toss on the iPhone.’
- Want to see some bad stand-up? Course you do:
- Miranda Hart says she's not finding it particularly difficult to adapt her Radio 2 show into a new BBC Two sitcom. ‘It’s much easier to write for TV,' she says, 'because if all else fails I can just fall over.'
- Greetings, pop-pickers: David Walliams was at the Blur gig in Goldsmiths College on Monday – and at the Pet Shop Boys gig last Friday, also attended by Mat Horne. Meanwhile, Noel Fielding was seen at the more underground Dead Weather gig at the Boston Arms in North London – the band is a side project by Jack Black fro the The White Stripes and Alison Mosshart from The Kills.
- Stand-up Paul Sinha is the 68th best at quizzes in the world... at least according to his placement in this month's World Quizzing Championships, where he took that rank out of a field of 973.
- Jo Brand has portrayed her transformation from fat to thin in this charity sketch. She said: ‘In my teens I went on the pill and put on three stone in six months... So that proved to be a very effective contraceptive. No more to say really!’ She is one of 150 celebrities to illustrate a transition in their lives for Action for Children. Other comics who contributed include Stewart Lee (whose journey was from bed to pub), Pappy’s Fun Club (from comedy as hobby to job) and Ricky Grover (from rage to stage).
- Alan Carr: ‘Awards are like drugs. You get one and want more. My gateway drug was Rear Of The Year. Ever since that taste I just wanted more.’
