New teen comedy for BBC Three

But Fresh! will shun gritty content

BBC Three has commissioned another teen comedy to air this summer.

Fresh! is a pre-watershed comedy revolving around a group of freshers at university. Its tone is said to be closer to Malcolm In The Middle than E3’s grittier Skins.

The seven-part series will be broadcast on both BBC Three and BBC Switch, the Saturday-afternoon youth strand on BBC Two.

No casting or production details have yet been confirmed.

BBC Three has increasingly been commissioning comedies about youngsters to sit alongside its long-running sitcom Two Pints Of Lager. It recently aired Coming of Age, written by 19-year-old Tim Dawson, but cancelled the acclaimed Pulling, which revolved around thirtysomethings.

Producer Simon Maxwell said: ‘The rules are constantly being rewritten as people adapt and define new forms of storytelling. Greenroom is perfectly positioned to navigate this changing space and Fresh! is the ideal flagship production for us.’
