Montreal, here we come...

Just For laughs unveils line-up

This year’s line-up for Montreal’s prestigious Just For Laughs comedy festival has been announced, with John Cleese, Whoopi Goldberg, Jimmy Carr and Tommy Tiernan among the comedians appearing.

Cleese will be hosting a Britcom gala – one of the festival’s high-profile, televised gigs which, unusually, will be dedicated to UK comedians alone.

Simon Amstell will be making his Montreal debut in the show, alongside Ross Noble, Jimmy Carr, Mark Watson, Danny Bhoy, Gina Yashere and Idiots of Ants.

Other galas will be hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, Martin Short and Lewis Black.

Meanwhile, comedians of other nationalities will, as usual, perform in themed showcases in smaller venues.

Jimeoin, Dead Cat Bounce, Patrick Kielty and Ed Byrne will appear in O’Comics: The Irish Comedy Show; while Late Nite Down Under features Dave Hughes, Wil Anderson, Rhys Darby and host Adam Hills

The elite few comics to have their own solo shows include Louis CK, Bill Cosby, Robert Schimmel, Russell Peters and Tommy Tiernan, who performs a new show called Eh.

The 27th Just For Laughs Festival – which is seen as a crucial showcase by America’s agents and talent scouts – takes place from July 16 to 26.
