New sitcom for Nigel Havers
The first show will follow the story of ambitious Gemma Collinge as she attempts to find escape her quiet Yorkshire village and find fame before she reaches 21.
The six half-hour episodes will be written by Tony Pitts who collaborated with Johnny Vegas on the Radio 4 comedy series Night Class, and made by by independent production house Freeform.
Meanwhile, Admin – which is still the show’s working title, is described as a ‘slacker sitcom’ set in the post room of a solicitors' office.
It is written by David Isaac who has most recently written on axed BBC One show Not Going Out. The show will be produced by stand-up Matt Tiller for Manchester-based Channel K.
Havers will play the firm’s owner, Mike, while Cutting It star Sian Reeves will play the office manager. The rest of the cast are relative unknowns.
Both comedies are will help the BBC’s ‘out-of-London’ strategy, designed to ensure that half of all BBC programming is made outside the capital by 2016.
Comedy commissioner Rebecca Papworth said: ‘These regional productions will be an exciting addition to BBC Three's comedy line-up. Both commissions are great examples of the channel's commitment to producing innovative comedy from new and emerging talent.’
