My Family is top sitcom

Show tops viewing figures

My Family was by far the most popular sitcom of 2008, according to new figures.

The programme, which is now entering its ninth year, picked up a total average audience of 9.85million – almost twice as many as its closest rival, Benidorm.

The figure takes into account the first run, on BBC One at 9.30pm on a Friday night, and a repeat later in the week in Scotland alone.

In comparison, Benidorm attracted a consolidated audience of 5.28million to ITV1. In third place was the Only Fools and Horses spin-off The Green Green Grass, with 5.18million.
