Jo Brand judges public speaking show

...with Alistair Campbell and Earl Spencer

Jo Brand is to judge a new primetime BBC Two contest to find Britain’s best young public speaker.

She will be heading the panel on The Speaker, traveling the country with fellow judges will Jeremy Stockwell, a RADA drama tutor, and John Amaechi, a motivational speaker, to find the most passionate and eloquent 14- to 18-year-olds.

Executive producer Kieron Collins said: ‘Britain's youth often get a raw deal in the media. This show redresses the balance; it's about communication, confidence and giving British teenagers an opportunity to be heard.’

Finalists will be mentored by fierce former spin doctor Alastair Campbell, Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer, Dragons’ Den businesswoman Deborah Meaden and newsreader Kate Silverton.

Each week, their speeches are evaluated, with the weakest going head-to-head to avoid elimination.

The Speaker will run over eight hour-long programmes, starting in April.
