Another comedy contest launches

Prize fund: zero

Freesheet thelondonpaper has launched a hunt for the capital's ‘next big comedy talent’ – but with no cash prize at stake.

Instead, the winner of thelondoncomic simply wins a ten-minute spot supporting a more established comedian at the Soho Theatre.

Entrants must submit a clip of between 90 and 120 seconds, but the material cannot be offensive to any one, nor promote conduct that is objectionable or illegal. Entrants give thelondonpaper the right to use any of the footage, edited at the newspaper’s discretion.

Thelondonpaper is part of Rupert Murdoch’s multinational News Group and this competition is part of a year-long comedy promotion being sponsored by Burtons menswear.

A panel of experts, including comedian Nick Mohammed, will pick the best ten acts and post their video showreels online for readers to vote for their favourites. The top five will then have to perform at a live final on Sunday November 30 at the Soho Theatre.
