Comics vie for TV awards

Hill, Carr and Tate all shortlisted

Harry Hill, Alan Carr and Catherine Tate have all be nominated in the National Television Awards.

Carr will go up against his Sunday Night Project co-host Justin Lee Collins for most popular entertainment presenter – a category in which another hosting duo, Ant and Dec, are shortlisted jointly. The fourth nominee is Paul O'Grady.

Tate goes up against her Doctor Who co-star David Tennant for outstanding drama performance, along with Philip Glenister from Ashes To Ashes and Alex Walkinshaw of The Bill.

Drama is the only category where the award is for outstanding achievement. Every other award, which is now decided by public vote, is for the ‘most popular’ progamme.

Shortlisted for most popular comedy are Harry Hill's TV Burp, Benidorm, My Family and Ugly Betty.

This year's awards take place on October 29 and will air live on ITV1, hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald.
