A one-Norse race

Norwegian comic takes new act crown

Norwegian comic Daniel Simonsen has won this year’s So You Think You’re Funny new act competition.

His deadpan set, which included tales of him working as a hospital porter and how he gets nervous socially, wowed a panel of judges at the Edinburgh Fringe.

He wins £5,000 and a trip to Montreal's Just For Laughs comedy festival.

Brighton-based comic Seann Walsh came second, with Sara Pascoe third.

About 300 hopefuls had entered the regional heats, with a series of semi-finals held at Edinburgh’s Gilded Balloon. Under the rules of the competition, none could have been performing stand-up for more than a year.

Judges at the final included Johnny Vegas, Melbourne Comedy Festival director Susan Provan and Bruce Hills of Just For Laughs.
