Comic branded 'sick' over murder gag
A Scottish comedian has been branded ‘despicable’ after joking about a murder victim just yards from where she was found.
Scott Agnew cracked the gag about businesswoman Moira Jones just two months after her body was discovered in Queen’s Park, Glasgow.
The 27-year-old stand-up pointed to a man in the audience and said: ‘You look like the kind of guy who hangs around parks murdering women. The cops got the wrong guy for Moira – it was him.’
He added: ‘Six weeks ago I couldn’t have got away with that. Time’s obviously a good healer… well, maybe not that good, she’s still dead.’
Agnew cracked the gag last Sunday at the Ha Ha Raw Comedy gig at the Ivory Hotel, which overlooks the par.
But today he has been branded ‘sick’ and ‘tasteless’ by the News Of The World’s Scottish edition.
Local Lib Dem councillor Paul Coleshill told the paper: ‘It’s despicable and not funny. He took bad taste to new depths.’
But Agnew insisted: ‘It was not intended to be offensive.’
The body of 40-year-old Moira’s partially clothed body was found on May 29. Police say she was savagely beaten to death after a brutal sex attack. Slovakian Marek Harcar, 32, is awaiting trial for murder.
