British holidays are no joke

Comedies to promote UK breaks

Tourism bosses are to use classic TV comedies to promote British holiday destinations.

Even Fawlty Towers could be used to woo visitors to Torquay, despite it being a poor advert for the service industry.

Locations to be promoted by Visit Britain have not been finalised, but are likely to include the statue of Eric Morecambe at Morecambe Bay.

Thetford in Norfolk has also used the fact Dad’s Army was film there to try to attract more tourists.

A Visit Britain spokeswoman said: ‘We want visitors to look at holidaying in Britain in a new light and forget some of their preconceptions.

‘The comedy campaign will hopefully give them another reason to visit popular resorts, towns and cities which have links with popular comedy shows.’
