Pegg's third homage

Hot Fuzz follow-up announced

Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright are to reunite for a third comedy homage to one of their favourite film genres, following Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz.

The new film will be called The World's End, but details remain scarce. Asked if it suggested a sci-fi theme, Wright said: ‘It's kind of going in that direction.’

Pegg is also working on a road trip movie with Hot Fuzz co-star Nick Frost, about the desolation of America’s Midwest. However, early reports this week suggested this is not the film being directed by Wright.

Whatever the topic, this film will complete what Pegg and Wright are calling their Cornetto trilogy. A strawberry Cornetto appeared in Shaun of the Dead, an original flavour in Hot Fuzz, and a mint choc chip will appear somewhere in The World's End.

Wright, pictured, who first worked with Pegg on Channel 4’s Spaced, is directing it as part of two-film deal with producers Working Title and distributors Universal Pictures.

The other is Baby Driver, a take on the action/crime genre, which he will film before The World's End.

Working Title boss Eric Fellman said: ‘We are delighted to continue to be in business with Edgar. We see him as one of the most gifted writers and directors in the industry today.

Pegg, meanwhile, is currently filming his role as Scotty in revival of the Star Trek franchise.
