Free South Park for all
The move follows the success of Comedy Central’s decision to put thousands of videos from The Daily Show on the internet.
Website southparkstudios.com will be transformed into a free library of all the animated shows – which to date number 167 episodes - starting next year.
Judy McGrath of parent company MTV Neworks said she expected the decision to boost the TV audience by strengthening the fan base, rather than eroding it.
She said: ‘One does not diminish the other by any stretch of the imagination. That is kind of our hat trick.’
In August, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker signed a new £37million deal, extending the show for three years and promising them a potentially lucrative share in online revenues.
