No more Jam for Joanna

Lumley quits Saunders sitcom

Joanna Lumley is quitting the Jennifer Saunders sitcom Jam and Jerusalem.

The actress said her character Delilah will not be in the second series of the comedy about a Women’s Institute-style group when it returns to BBC One next year.

But she did say she hoped to work with Saunders again on a one-off special of Absolutely Fabulous.

Talking to actors’ newspaper The Stage, Lumley said: ‘Delilah is not in the second series. I have stepped back from it, not for any reason other than it was gorgeous and going along fine,.

‘Maybe she will come another time.’

And of Ab Fab, she added: ‘Maybe there will be a special somewhere. It’s a known thing that maybe one day [the characters] will lurch out of the boxes again. They are fun to be.’

Meanwhile, the new Jennifer Saunders vehicle The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle, managed to reverse its ratings slide last night.

The TV satire was seen by 1.3 million viewers, up from 900,000 last week.

The Peter Serafinowicz Show, which follows, also saw a slight upswing, picking up 100,000 viewers to total 900,000.
