Hello, McPossums!
The date at the Clyde Auditorium on March 21 is her first appearance in Scotland for more than a decade, and organisers say it will be her only UK date in 2008.
The character is making a return to ITV1 in the spring, with a new series entitled Dame Edna Treatment.
Festival director Tommy Sheppard said: 'This is wonderful news. Dame Edna is the biggest international star the festival has attracted to date. Already the festival is the biggest of its kind in the UK and we're determined that next year will be the biggest and best yet.'
Edna herself said: ‘My Dear Glaswegian Possums! Can you believe it's been umpteen years since you flocked to the theatre to worship at my shrine? So wait no more my little McPossums!
‘I'm coming back for one night only to spread my message of caring and sharing at that spooky yet strangely intimate Clyde Auditorium. Don't miss this seminal and pivotal life- enhancing experience.’
The festival, now in its sixth year, is sponsored by Magners and will feature more than 250 performances from March 6 to 23. Other acts already confirmed include tour shows from Jimmy Carr, French & Saunders and Frankie Boyle.
