A 'Buzzcocks' – but for comedy

BBC works on new panel show

The BBC is working on new radio quiz game, based on archive comedy clips and comedy trivia.

Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition is being developed for digital channel BBC7, and will be hosted by Barnsley-based poet Ian McMillan, pictured, who also presents Radio Three’s The Verb

Regular panellists will include stand-ups Smug Roberts and Seymour Mace.

A pilot episode featured veteran comic Mick Miller and singer Bernie Nolan as guests. Miller wrote on his website: ‘The best way to describe it is like Never Mind The Buzzcocks for comedy.

‘Being a pilot, we had to record ten rounds, but they only intend to use four. Some of the rounds were very odd, but I’m sure it will make a great show by the time they have finished.’

Another episode, to be recorded at the Manchester Comedy Store on November 5, will feature Graham Walker of The Grumbleweeds. Free tickets are available from the BBC ticket unit.
