Dogs have their day

Marshall to star in ITV comedy

My Family star Kris Marshall is to front a new ITV1 comedy about the world of pedigree dog shows.

Catwalk Dogs is a 90-minute film, which has been written by Men Behaving Badly creator Simon Nye.

Marshall will plays a barrister who tries to win back his wife – to be played by Murphy's Law's Georgia MacKenzie – after she falls for a handsome dog breeder. So his character, a lawyer, also becomes involved in the world of dog shows.

Independent production house Shed Productions, which also made Bad Girls and Footballers' Wives, will start filming next month. The show is due to air later in the year.

ITV drama controller Sally Haynes, who commissioned Catwalk Dogs, told MediaGuardian: ‘Simon Nye has written a funny, quirky and deeply romantic piece set against the world of dog shows that will appeal to a broad spectrum of viewers.

‘Kris Marshall and Georgia MacKenzie have the perfect rapport to deliver such a script.’

Director Christopher Guest has previously tapped the world of dog shows for comedy, with his 2000 film Best In Show.
