Storming the castle

Gervais to play Edinburgh castle

Ricky Gervais is to play Edinburgh Castle during this year’s Fringe Festival.

The comic will be bringing his Fame tour to the historic venue for a single night, Sunday August 26 – the penultimate day of the Fringe.

He will be performing at the 8,000-seat arena constructed in the grounds for the annual military tattoo, which ends its month-long run the previous night.

Gervais will be the first comedian to have played the castle – most of which dates from the 16th Century - since the days of the court jester

Tickets for the gig will go on sale on Monday June 11, the same day the Fringe box office opens for business for all the festival shows.

Gervais, who plays a sold-out gig at New York’s Madison Square Garden next Saturday, will end his near year-long tour with a month at The Hammersmith Apollo in September and three nights at The Royal Albert Hall in October.

A live DVD of the Fame show will be released on November 12.
