Mack sitcom scoops Golden Rose

British comedies have swept the board at this year's Rose d'Or international TV festival.

Lee Mack’s BBC One sitcom Not Going Out was named best sitcom at last night’s awards.

The show, made by Avalon Television, also starred fellow stand-up Tim Vine as Mack’s best friend. It was written by Mack and Andrew Collins.

Meanwhile, The Vicar Of Dibley’s final episodes took the best comedy prize.

And Ben Elton, who hosted the ceremony in Lucerne, Switzerland, was awarded an Honorary Rose for his lifetime contribution to the arts.

Festival director Urban Frye said: ‘The winners demonstrate a fantastic and diverse field of programming.’

Other British winners included Channel 4 reality show Secret Millionaire and Welsh-language S4C soap Con Passionate.

The Thick Of It, My Family, The Royle Family and Scottish comedy Legit had also been nominated for best sitcom; while TittyBangBang, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Green Wing and Man Stroke Woman had made the best comedy shortlist.
