Second series for Izzard's drama

Eddie Izzard’s American drama series The Riches has been renewed for a second series.

The FX channel has ordered another run of the hit show, which will air in the US early next year.

The first series of 13 episodes – which is currently on air until June 4 - has been especially popular with younger audiences, attracting 3.9 million viewers in the sought-after 18-49 age range.

FX president John Landgraf told The Hollywood Reporter the show did better than expected, with figures that ‘make it a hit on cable’.

‘If we believe in a show creatively and it's a hit, we will pick it up,’ he added.

Izzard has received critical acclaim for his role in The Riches, in which he and Minnie Driver play married fraudsters who try to settle down with their family after one final con. Here’s a trailer:
