E4 trousers its first sitcom

Youth comedy commissioned

E4 has commissioned its first original sitcom, Baggy Trousers.

The show will follows four youngsters growing up in the ‘tedious confines of suburbia’.

An E4 spokesman told MediaGuardian: ‘It's a world of failed driving tests, futile crushes, sibling brawls, trying to get girls to like you and endless embarrassments in front of giggling peers.’

The show exactly targets the channel’s youth demographic in the same way Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps has been a hit for BBC Three.

It will be written by comedy executives Ian Morris and Damon Beesley. Morris is a former C4 comedy commissioning editor whhile Beesley produced Jimmy Carr's stand-up video.

Five half-hour episodes have been commissioned from the duo’s own independent production house Bwark, to air later in the year.

It is understood the order follows a successful pilot episode.
