New Fringe boss named
Morgan, currently executive producer of Manchester’s Contact Theatre, will take over from Paul Gudgin when he steps down on June 7, the day this year’s programme is unveiled.
Morgan has previously served as an advisor to Scottish Arts Council on the bid to set up the National Theatre of Scotland.
Baroness Elizabeth Smith, chair of the fringe’s board of directors, said: ‘Heading up the world’s biggest celebration of the arts is a challenging role, and we are confident that Jon is extremely well placed for it. His experience paired with his ambition will no doubt build on the fringe’s past success.’
Gudgin, pictured, has been in the job for seven years and is leaving to take on a variety of ‘event-based projects’.
During his tenure, he has overseen a huge growth in the Fringe – audience numbers have doubled in a decade – but has fought a losing battle about securing more public funding to the event, despite the economic benefits it brings to the city.
