She said that reviving the old TV spoof of dodgy soap operas has damaged her chance of being considered a serious playwright.
‘I think in hindsight that Acorn Antiques The Musical was a very bad idea,’ she told The South Bank Show.
‘Perhaps I’ve shot my bolt, perhaps I had one crack at writing a musical and perhaps I should have made it something that wasn’t tied to that sort of television brand.’
‘I probably could have written a proper musical – well I’ll never know now if I could have or not, because I probably won’t.’
Despite her regrets, the show enjoyed a 16-week run in the West End last year and is now touring, with Wood directing.
