Back in the Family
Writers returned to the studio this week after the deadlock between producer 20th Century Fox TV and creator Seth MacFarlane was finally broken.
Although MacFarlane's deal was not due to expire for several more months, studio executives pulled production in October.
Fox did not want to start work on the new series only to halt it later if negotiations failed, Hollywood paper Variety reports. Talks had already been going on for more than a year when they pulled the plug.
Despite the delay, series six is due to air in America from this autumn.
Variety predicts that MacFarlane stands to sign a big overall deal with Fox given the success of Family Guy and American Dad.
He is also behind a new live-action comedy The Winner, about a successful middle-aged man who looks back to 1994, when he started his transformation from fear-riddled underachiever to his new life of wealth.
