BBC Three reorders comedies

BBC Three has commissioned new series of both Drop Dead Gorgeous and Johnny Vegas’s Ideal.

The channel’s controller Julian Bellamy, who reordered both shows, said: ‘These are real examples of the channel's commitment to comedy. I'm delighted to have established names like Johnny Vegas alongside newcomers like Sinead Moynihan on BBC Three.’

Moynihan stars as teenage model Ashley in Drop Dead Gorgeous, plucked from working-class obscurity to become a star the international catwalk, causing frictions in her family.

The show was written and created by Carmel Morgan, who has previously worked on Shameless.

The newly commissioned second series, produced by Hat Trick North, goes into production next year.

Meanwhile, BBC Comedy North and independent production company Baby Cow have already started work on the third series of Ideal, written by Graham Duff and starring Vegas as small-time dope dealer Moz.
