They are among the 100 names in a new, more populist, volume being published for the first time by the aristocracy specialists, Debrett’s.People of the Year.
David Walliams also made the cut, for his cross-Channel swim in aid of Sport Relief,
And Rowan Atkinson was named because of his high-profile role campaigning against the Government’s Racial and Religious Hatred Bill, which he said would stifle free speech among comedians.
Debrett’s said the final 100 had been selected by a panel of Debrett's staff, adding: ‘Society picks its icons in a way that no individual PR or media machine can fully control, and this is reflected in the final selections.
‘The people in the book have all shaped something this year, or done something particularly interesting. This is a celebration of our meritocratic society.’
