Amstell pens E4 comedy-drama

Former Popworld presenter Simon Amstell and award-winning stand-up Josie Long are to write a new teenage comedy-drama for E4.

Skins will revolve around the lives of a group of friends who, in the words of the channel’s publicists, ‘grab life by the balls and give it a twirl’.

The nine-part series will also, according to the press blurb, offer ‘a hilarious mixture of sweet, charming, and sometimes heartbreaking stories [that] reveal what young people are really up to’.

It will be written by a team of writers that also includes the Dawson brothers – Steve, Andrew and Tim – whose CV includes Dirty Tricks, Swinging, Balls of Steel and FAQ U.

And heading a cast of mostly unknown teenage actors is Nicholas Hoult, the 17-year-old who played the youngster in Hugh Grant movie About A Boy.

The series is due on E4 next year.

Amstell, 26, will host the next series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks which will be recorded from next month; while Long, 24, won the if.comeddie best newcomer award in Edinburgh this year.
