Chanda wins new act title

New comedian Arnab Chanda has beaten more than 500 rivals to win the Laugh-Off award run by London’s Amused Moose comedy award.

Chanda, who was born in England but grew up on India, Saudi Arabia and America, took the first prize at the Edinburgh Fringe last night. There is no cash prize, but he will get 'production and PR support' at the festival next year, should he choose to bringe a show.

He joked:  ‘I'm also hoping the win will lead to free meals in restaurants globally or if I’m lucky, maybe even internationally.’

And he said of his stand-up: ‘I love/hate it a lot.’

Second place went to double act Ginger and Black; with Holly Walsh, an art gallery receptionist by day, coming in third.

Other finalists were Scotland’s Billy Kirkwood, Bolton’s Diane Morgan, Tom Clutterbuck from East Anglia and Caroline Clifford from Watford.
