BBC Two buys Kath and Kim movie

BBC Two has brought the rights to air the spin-off film from hit Australian comedy Kath & Kim.

TV movie Da Kath & Kim Code was the highest-rating film on Australian television when it aired on ABC last year, attracting more than a third of the viewing audience.

The deal was signed as stars Jane Turner and Gina Riley arrive in the UK for a tour to promote the second series of the suburban sitcom, which starts on BBC Two on Monday.

The film also features cameo appearances by Barry Humphries and  Michael Buble, while Kylie Minogue  was a guest in series three.

Speaking in character, Gina Riley’s Kim said: ‘I always love going to the UK because let's face it most of you Brits feel insuperior to us Aussies and with good reason.

‘I also can't wait to get back to the UK as I have put a pair of Nutella Versace low rise bumsters on lay by at H&M last time I was there, so I can pick those up.’

BBC executive by Sue Deeks, who signed the movie deal, said: ‘Da Kath & Kim Code is another sharp, well-observed, laugh-out-loud funny outing - only it's three times as long.’
