Brand new sitcom

Russell works on radio idea

Russell Brand is working on a new sitcom for Radio 2

The comic, who has been in the headlines for his liaisons with Kate Moss, has created Cloud Cuckooland with his 6 Music sidekick Trevor Lock, also a stand-up comic.

They both star in the show, described as being set in ‘a magical realm of their own design’ and about ‘being and nothingness, desire and death, winkles and willfulness’.

Radio 2, which has traditionally relied on clips shows and mainstream sketch shows for its comedy output, is becoming increasingly experimental with its commissioning. It recently aired a series by Flight Of The Conchords, as well as stand-up show Out To Lunch, featuring less established comics such as Russell Howard, Rob Deering and Dan Antopolski.

Brand and Lock will record a one-off episode of Cloud Cuckooland  at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios on June 10.

Free tickets to the taping are available on the BBC Studio Audiences website.
