Going to the polls
Channel 4 is planning a series of countdown shows featuring the best stand-ups, comedy characters and catchphrases.
Work is under way on the shows, and producers have now created websites for viewers to vote for their favourites.
The flagship of the season is a four-hour special counting down the top 100 stand-ups of all time, including American, British, Irish and Australian acts.
The list already compiled includes some surprises – including newish acts such as Alex Zane and Shazia Mirza - as well as old-school comics such as Jim Davidson, Bernard Manning and Mick Miller alongside a familiar list of comedy legends.
Another show will celebrate Britain’s best-loved television comedy characters. Again, a website has been set up to collect votes here.
Each of the three shows will feature archives, interviews and clips from the shortlisted comedians.
Zoo magazine has also set up a poll to find the funniest people alive - although it doesn't constrict itself to comedians. Click here for that website.
