Brydon seeks the One
Rob Brydon’s creation Keith Barret could be heading for BBC One with a new relationship show.
He is filming a pilot episode of The Happy Couple next month, in which he will quiz ordinary people about the state of their romance.
Brydon has already made a similar show in which he questioned celebrities for BBC Two – although the new project has more of a game show element.
In an appeal for participants, the BBC said: ‘This is a search for the couple who are most in love, who work best as a team, and who know one another most intimately
‘We're looking for couples of all ages and backgrounds - couples who've been married for years, couples who've only just started dating, mixed race couples, gay couples…’
Barret, who first hit screens as the lovelorn minicab driver in Marion and Geoff, was an unlikely candidate to become a spoof chat show host, but The Keith Barret show ran for two series on BBC Two in 2004.
The pilot for The Happy Couple will be filmed at BBC TV Centre on February 24.
Brydon recently recorded a pilot of another show, You're History, a spoof quiz show in which he played the host who was disillusioned with the entire programme.
