Cleese starts his New Zealand tour

John Cleese has started the New Zealand run of his ‘one-man’ show, called His Life, Times, And Current Medical Problems.

He has performed the first of 22 dates which will take him to a total of eight cities over five weeks.

The original plan was to perform 15 shows, but the tour was expanded because of demand.

‘It’s a one-man show with several people in it,’ Cleese said. ‘It pushes the envelope of acceptable behaviour in new and disgusting ways.’

Cleese told reporters in New Zealand that he came up with the title before he fell ill with diverticulitis and had to have part of his colon removed.

Also performing on the tour is John's youngest daughter, 22-year-old Camilla, and New Zealand actor Jay Bunyan.

Cleese's next show is in Christchurch tonight. It is not yet known whether he will perform it anywhere else once the New Zealand run is complete.
