Pegg accepts mission

Simon lands MI:III role

Simon Pegg is to star alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible III.

The Spaced comic will play an ally of Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt, and will appear in a cast that also includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames and Laurence Fishburne.

The film’s director JJ Abrams spotted Pegg when he starred in Shaun Of The Dead last year. But Mission Impossible III’s $135m budget is almost 36 times as much as the zombie comedy’s $4m.

In one recent interview JJ Abrams said of Pegg: ‘His comedic skill is remarkable. He's able to be funny while always seeming 100 per cent real, even when he's killing zombies with vinyl records.’

Earlier this week we reported how Pegg had also landed a role opposite Martin Freeman and Gwyneth Paltrow in a new romantic comedy The Good Night. Filming on this starts at Ealing Studios on November 7.
