Larry's back

ITV4 to air chat show comedy

Acclaimed American comedy The Larry Sanders Show is to be repeated on new digital channel ITV4.

As well as Garry Shandling’s cult hit about an insecure, overanalytical chat show host, which ran from 1992 to 1998, was shunted into an irregular late-night slot when aired on BBC Two.

Nonetheless, it attracted a devout fan base, and one ITV bosses will hope will follow it on to the new channel.

ITV4, which will be aimed at men, will also be airing a genuine talk show: The Late Show with David Letterman.

Other US comedy imports coming to the channel when it launches on November 1 include the politically incorrect puppets of Crank Yankers;  Invasion Iowa, which sees William Shatner attempting to pull off the greatest hoax in US history; plus comedian Andy Dick’s spoof reality show The Assistant.

However, much of the channel’s schedules will be dominated by movies and sports. Boxing, UEFA Champions League football, tour de France and yet more poker have already been confirmed.

And the film rights bought up include Full Metal Jacket, Carlito’s Way and The Fast and the Furious.

The channel will air on all platforms, including Freeview, from 6pm to 6am daily.
