Gervais's record sell-out

Ricky Gervais has sold out a New York gig in 59 seconds.

The $35-a-head tickets for his Q&A session at Manhattan’s prestigious New Yorker Festival on September 24  went in less than a minute of going on sale, his publicist  said.

Gervais will fly to the New York literary from Los Angeles after attending The Emmys where he is nominated for another two gongs – for best writing and for best made-for-TV movie for the Office Christmas specials.

He said: ‘As with the Golden Globes I am assuming we will come home empty handed. This time I fear my prediction is correct.’

While in New York he will also  be signing his children’s book Flanimals in Union Square and be appearing on both The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and NBC’s Late Show withConan O'Brien to promote Extras, which debuts on HBO on September 25.

The ordering of the series on HBO is slightly different from the British original, kicking off with the Kate Winslet episode.
