Desperado Housewives

Five orders new sitcom

A new comedy series dubbed ‘the British Desperate Housewives’ has been ordered by Five.

Suburban Shootout is the first result from the joint venture between the broadcaster and the Paramount Comedy Channel to develop new ideas.

The show, said to be a cross between the US sitcom and Quentin Tarantino, follows two rich housewives, Camilla and Barbara, fighting a vicious turf war in the fictional Home Counties town of Little Stempington.

Five’s commissioning editor of comedy Graham Smith told trade journal Broadcast: ‘There are some very black moments and homages to Quentin Tarantino and John Woo.’

The show is the first project from the joint-venture comedy initiative from Five and Paramount.

Eight half-hour episodes, written by former advertising executives, Gary Martin and Roger Beckett, will be aired on Five in January and be repeated on Paramount Comedy later.
