A Shore thing
American comic Pauly Shore is offering $1 cash back to every viewer who doesn’t laugh at his new show.
The once-famous stand-up is to run the LA Comedy Store, the legendary club owned by his mother Mitzi, in the new reality series Minding The Store on American cable network TBS.
He said: ‘I am so confident that my new series will make people laugh I’ve convinced the network heads at TBS to let me offer this special guarantee.
‘It’s our way of saying we value people’s television-viewing time, and we know they’ll feel their time spent watching Minding The Store is well worth it."
Viewers who fail to laugh during the first episode can send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the broadcaster, which will send the money back.
In the opening moments of the show opens, Pauly explains the idea behind the series: ‘I was born into comedy - literally. My dad’s a comic, and my mother Mitzi owns the world-famous Comedy Store. I grew up around the greats.
‘And while The Comedy Store was rocking, so was I: first standup, then TV and then movies. And with fame came girls, lots of girls.
‘Today Comedy Store legends rule the box office. And me, I can’t even get a role. And now, if reviving my career isn’t hard enough, my mom wants me to run the family business.’
Episodes follow Pauly as he renovates the venue, comes up with special theme nights, and deals with his mother’s controlling influence.
The Comedy Store, on the Sunset Strip, was founded in 1972 by Mitzi Shore’s then husband, comedian Sammy Shore and continues to present stand-up comedy seven days a week. The London Conedy Store took its name from the LA venue in 1979, but is not otherwise associated with it.
