Comic lands role as Dylan Thomas

Welsh comedian Dave Fellows has been cast to play Dylan Thomas in a new low-budget film.

The stand-up, also known as Psycho Dave, will actually play the ghost of the poet in the big-screen version of Ugly Lovely Night

It is based on a play by Swansea University lecturer Binda Singh, which tells of an American student who enrols at Swansea University hoping to find his long lost father. His father's favourite poet is Dylan Thomas, who appears as the ghostly apparition played by Fellows.

The comic said: 'It’ll be interesting to play the poet making a return journey to a 21st century Swansea. The script has many poignant and humorous observations’

Singh has written the screenplay to the film, which is being financed by BJB Productions.

Producer Brian Thomas said: ‘It is a kind of modern day Capra-esque story. A modern day Welsh It’s A Wonderful Life.’

Filming starts in Texas in early August, before moving to the Swansea University campus for the bulk of filming.
