Family Guy movie heads for DVD

A direct-to-DVD movie based around animated comedy Family Guy is to be released this autumn.

Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story will be a payback for the show’s fans who brought DVDs of the original series in such huge numbers that it persuaded US broadcaster Fox to resurrect the show last year.

The 83-minute film will see evil baby genius Stewie have a near-death experience – which makes him suspect the slobbish Peter might not be his biological father and prompts him into a journey to find to find his real dad.

Extras on the disc will include deleted scenes,  commentary from creator Seth MacFarlane and an additional animation showing the Griffins going to their own movie premiere and after-party.

MacFarlane, who also provides the voices for Peter, Stewie and talking dog Brian, told E! online: "It's been an enormous undertaking to juggle this with doing 35 new episodes of the show, but we think it turned out great.”

Family Guy has sold more than 4.5 million copies on DVDs, and that's the market Fox hopes to tap into with the new release

The Untold Story will be released in the US on September 27 at $30, but no news yet on a UK release date.
