Work has officially started on The Simpsons movie.
In an interview with Radio 1, Nancy Cartwright, who plays Bart Simpson, has ended months of speculation by revealing that the cast have already had a read-through of the planned script.
"You know what? We've just done the table read for The Simpsons movie, so although we've been promoting that we're going to do it, now we're actually doing it and are in production," she said.
"I don't know the name of it, and I can't go into details about it, and we'll just have to see how it goes, but I think it's going to be great and the fans are going to dig it."
Studio spokeswoman Antonia Coffman confirmed to the E! Online website: "They are working on hammering out a script, but there's no title or production date or release date.”
Producers had always said the movie would not be made until after the TV show, which embarks on its 17th series this autumn, had run out of steam, because they did not want to take writers off the programme to make the big-screen version.
"We always wanted the show to end first but it just keeps going. Now they've worked out a team to simultaneously do [both],” Coffman added.
"For the fans, something is in the works. Who knows what will come out, but at least it is on the road."Published: 8 Jun 2005
