Morrison: I loved those movies

The Carry On films have claimed an unlikely fan - in the famously miserable musician Van Morrison.

The grumpy singer has confessed to loving the comedies, and has even named one of the tracks on his new album Magic Time in their honour.

Lyrics  on Carry On Regardless include: “Carry on up the Khyber, carry on, carry on Dick / Carry on up the Khyber Pass, won’t you carry on, carry on Dick” and “Carry on regardless, carry on doctor, carry on nurse / Carry on till you get what your after / Carry on till it can’t get much worse.”

In an interview the 59-year old said: "I thought of tipping the hat to those films on a song. I grew up with all that stuff.

"Sid James - he was a genius, if you consider not just his Carry On work, but almost everything he did with [Tony] Hancock.”
