Spamalot scoops three Broadway awards

Monty Python’s Spamalot won three Drama Desk awards on Broadway last night, including the coveted Outstanding Musical title.

Writer Eric Idle also picked up an award for his lyrics, and Tim Hatley for his costume design.

The show had been nominated in 12 categories in the 50th annual event – often seen as a precursor to who will win the more prestigious Tony Awards.

The outstanding solo performance award, for which Dave Gorman had been nominated for his Googlewhack Adventure, was scooped by Billy Crystal for his stand-up show 700 Sundays.
